I got a message this afternoon from someone concerned about my safety, so just letting everyone know that this week’s deadly landslide in Ecuador is nowhere near me. The landslide is in Quito, the capital of Ecuador. I am in Cuenca, which is nearly 200 miles (about 300 km) south of Quito. I am safe and well.
Also, there was an earthquake this afternoon near the Ecuador-Peru border. Cuenca is the nearest major city to that earthquake, but it was minor enough here that I didn’t feel it. Others in my household did.
Air quality isn’t good today in Cuenca. I was planning to run this afternoon, but authorities recommended limiting outdoor activities, so I’m not running today out of an abundance of caution.
